About HonestCalcs

HonestCalcs is a set of free, no-sign-up calculators for the money questions people actually search for β€” income tax, take-home pay, mortgages, savings, Zakat and admission merit β€” for the United States and Pakistan.

The name is the promise: calculators that are straight with you. Every tool shows its working, names its source and says what it leaves out, so you understand the number rather than just trusting it. No sign-up, no paywall, and no result ever changed to sell you something.

Who's behind it

HonestCalcs is built and maintained by Muhammad Junaid, a software engineer based in Pakistan. Junaid builds and maintains the calculators, checks every figure against the official source, and answers error reports personally. He is not a tax adviser, lender or admissions officer β€” which is exactly why every page shows its sources and its limits.

Why we built it

Most calculator sites quietly go stale. Tax brackets, payroll limits, admission formulas and utility rules change every year, and an out-of-date calculator gives a confident wrong answer. We built HonestCalcs around one principle: every figure lives in a single dated data file per year, sourced from the official publisher, and every page shows when it was last checked.

Where our numbers come from

  • United States: IRS revenue procedures and news releases for brackets and deductions; the Social Security Administration for the wage base.
  • Pakistan: the Finance Act and FBR for income tax, NEPRA for solar net-billing, PM&DC and university prospectuses for merit formulas, and a live market feed for gold and silver.

Each calculator links to its source and lists what it includes and leaves out.

Our editorial standards

  • Figures are checked against the primary source before a page goes live, and again whenever the rules change.
  • Worked examples on every page are checked against the same code that runs the calculator.
  • We never present an estimate as advice. For filing, borrowing or admissions decisions, check the official source or a qualified professional.
  • Ads, if shown, never change a calculation or a recommendation.

The full process β€” sources, update schedule and what we leave out β€” is on our how we calculate page.
